Alaska May Not Be As Dumb As We Thought
It seems as if the Senate seat is not going to go to Stevens after all. That’s good news not just if you’re a Democrat, but if your against corruption. Stevens, you may remember, was indicted by a federal grand jury on seven counts of failing to report gifts received. Stevens pleaded not guilty and asserted his right to a speedy trial, which began on September 25, in Washington, DC, to have the opportunity to clear his name before the November election. However, on October 27, 2008, barely a week before the election, Stevens was found guilty on all seven counts. If re-elected, Stevens will become the first convicted felon ever to be elected to the United States Senate. (Source-Wikipedia)
We can all still have faith in human beings if in fact Begich makes a comeback. If for no other reason then to not reward fraud. This type of precedent we could do without, no matter your party preference.
